Some stories make more sense in retrospect.

There is a version of this story where a woman works hard, follows her ambitions, and does many of the things she thought would add up to the life she imagined. And life unfolds more or less according to plan.

And sometimes, life unfolds differently. Sometimes, one Thursday morning, the calendar clears, and everything has to be reconsidered.

This book is about what can happen in the space that opens up after that.

The year that followed took her in and out of familiar surroundings. There were trips through Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the California desert, Arizona, and Maui, with stretches at home in between. Eventually, staying home became the harder part.

There was travel, but this isn't a travel story. It's more about exploration, therapy, grief, healing, and the discoveries that can come when you change pace. There was also room to look back at childhood, ambition, the choices she'd made, what happened as expected, and what didn't.

What emerged wasn't an answer. It was something closer to an honest accounting of the life she'd built, the expectations she'd carried, and what she did and didn't want to carry forward.

Part exploration, part reckoning. Very much not a guide.

Maybe Something Else is a memoir that follows what happens when an unplanned year away creates room to reflect on the life that came before it and reconsider what might come next.
